What is confusing in this book? Why?
I think that something in this book that is confusing is that why didn't Lysander's mother tell him that he was a spartan. If he would've known he was a spartan then he wouldn't of needed to work in the field all of his life and live in poverty. Also if his mother would have told him that they were spartans then Lysander's mother wouldn't have to suffer without medicine. If she would've gotten care before then she wouldn't have died.

What has surprised you in the book? Why?
One thing that has surprised me in this book is that Lysander ended up being a spartan. He was always talking about attacking the spartans and letting themselves free. He had a dream about working with the helots in there army and fighting off the spartans. He always dreamed of getting revenge and then he realized that he was one of those people he hated.

What other character(s) beside the main character is really important to the story? How and why?

One character that is important to the story is Timeon. Timeon is Lysander's best friend. He experiences the same things as Lysander by working in the fields every day. Since they both think the same way they train just in case they would have to fight for their people (the helots) in a war against the Spartans. They always help each other out by giving each other food when needed or just helping out with jobs needed to be done. Without Timeon, Lysander wouldn't have the strength to move on.

Which character would you like to be like? In what way? Why?

I would like to be like Lysander because he is very brave. He always has the strength to keep on going and always has the will to work twice as much as needed for himself so that he could afford medicine for his sick mother. Even when he still worked twice as much he didn't always get what he needed. Because of this he was always getting disappointed but Timeon always made him get happy again.

What has surprised you in the book? Why?
Something that surprised me in the book is that usually the main character has more then one enemy. In this book I think that the author symbolizes his mental worries as some of his enemies. This evens out the balance between good and bad in the story.
In this book it's surprising that he has all these things to worry about like The Fire of Ares, his mom, getting food and medicine and Timeon. All of these things make Lysander strong and always give him the strength to fight on. I also think it is kind of cheesy how every time he is out of power and doesn't have a will to go on the fire of ares just recharges all of his strength.

If you could change one thing in the book, what would it be? Why would you change it?
If I could change one thing in the book it would probably be how Lysander is always just sad about his life and even when his sick mom tries to cheer him up he stays sad. I would change this because it just gives the story a bad feel to it when the main character is just sad all the time and the only thing that keeps him happy is the fire of ares which is just a pendant.

Book Choice

I chose the Fire Fire Of Ares because it is about a war. A good war because it was made up and so anything can happen.
